Most people will be remembered by only a few, or just a handful, after they have left this world.
Teachers are remembered by hundreds.
The way they will be remembered, signifies the way that lived as teachers.
The role of the teacher of today has greatly changed. He is no more the authorotative figure he used to be.
His opinions are challenged, his attitudes are underestimated his beliefs are questioned.
Living in this rapidly transformed society of today, he stands confused and perplexed amongst the ethics he was brought up with, the advancements of technology and the needs of today's student.
For instance, he has to convince his students for the need of memorization, when children know that, there is everything, -there- in the magical new world of the internet.
He has to discipline his classes but not by means of force, but persuasion and patience.
He has to dig into his students' souls to find their hidden treasure of initiative and motivation.
It is very, very difficult to change their thinking from the fast moving computer games, into the silent ,slow, complex but still enchanting area of their own minds.
Sometimes teachers should just stay still and listen to their silence and try to interpret the way they move, their glances and breaths. There is a lot to be learnt and used as feedback, when they need to find a certain way to explain something to this particular person, or to understand his behavioral pattern.
Above all, we should always bear in mind that there are not students who do not learn. There are teachers who have not found the right way.
